Back in the 1930's when the big bands were becoming hot and before electronic sound reinforcement was common, you got the biggest guitar possible and the biggest strings possible- usually with the highest action possible- and pounded like a mad man in order to be heard over the horns and expanding drum kits. This seemed like a great idea to a guy named Ray Whitely, a cowboy star at the time. He pitched it to his favorite guitar company in the form of the perfect Country music guitar.
We have applied A.Davis construction and geometry to the old standard and the result is our jumbo model J1. Design improvements allow the J1 to crossover into many musical styles. Mark Mancina might be using one in his studio this very moment to score the next summer blockbuster. You'll find them gracing the stage with George Kahumoku Jr. as he leads you on a Hawaiian magical mystery tour or David Crosby as he tours the world with his magnificent bandmates. Even in the presence of John York (former Byrd and Redneck Ninja) as he works his J12MAS into a modern musical balancing act, our J models make themselves at home
