Art was born in Hawaii, went to public school in San Diego and became a luthiers apprentice at 18. Years at a small shop repairing or assembling guitars and rebuilding speakers while learning from the pro sound environment, seminars at JBL and Gibson-Kalamazoo, topped with a ten year stint at Taylor guitars give him perspective on how to make a guitar that works and what to do if it doesn't. He credits interests in science and the arts, industrial design and fabrication, with a dose of philosophy and language for helping him create solutions to the problem of building a guitar that is the best of the best. When he is not making guitars or sweeping up shavings, it is surfing, golf, motor sports, or planning the next adventure with his wife Maria, that puts wind in his sails.
Carl grew up in Chicago where NY hustle meets midwestern family values. Dabbling with music as a guitar player/singer, being part of a big family and knock around jobs with some real characters in the sixties gives him his people power. Drawn west by the real estate boom and the opportunities it created, he became successful at helping people realize their dreams while discovering a nightmare of his own. When he made it to Escondido, he traded his carpet bag for a ranch house where he lives with his wife Andrea, son Jordan and an ark full of horses, dogs, birds and whatever else walks across the lawn or nests in the trees. Carl loves to spend time with his family and his passion for tennis is only slightly exceeded by the wisdom of avoiding sprains and contusions.
